OVERVIEW AND PURPOSE
The purpose of this meeting is to update participants on advances in the field of lung cancer, including biology, pathology, screening, individualized therapy, and opportunities for novel therapeutic agent development and use. Focusing on barriers and advances in the personalized treatment of lung cancer, internationally renowned leaders will present and discuss the most recent clinical data on controversial topics. The audience will join in panel discussions and review of relevant case scenarios in lung cancer. Interactive case discussions and participation will enhance the learning experience and foster the integration of evidence-based patient care into everyday community practice.
TARGET AUDIENCE
This activity is intended for physicians, including medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, pulmonologists, thoracic surgeons, and family practitioners; nurses; pharmacists; physician assistants; researchers; other health care professionals; patients; and patient advocates interested in the care and treatment of patients with lung cancer.
EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES
Upon completion of this activity, participants will be able to:
- Summarize barriers and disparities that currently exist in the optimal screening, diagnosis, treatment, and survival of patients with lung cancer.
- Review new methods, new technologies, novel discoveries, and risk-analysis techniques used in lung cancer screening and evaluate which populations should be screened for lung cancer.
- Assess the impact of biomarkers in the implementation of personalized medicine through clinical trial design and patient care.
- Evaluate novel therapeutic targets, including oncogenes, transcription factors, and tumor suppressors, for the treatment of lung cancer.

The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education for physicians.
